Interpreter Services

If you have limited ability to speak or understand English, the Lassen County Superior Court is able to provide you with a language interpreter, a person who can translate court proceedings into your preferred language and make sure that you are able to communicate with the Judge and other court officials.

The Court can provide interpreters at no cost to the following:

  • Defendants and witnesses in criminal hearings
  • Defendants and witnesses in juvenile hearings
  • Defendants and witnesses in hearings involving domestic violence, elder abuse, and in cases involving family law and child support to the extent that funding is provided
  • Individuals who need assistance using family court services to the extent that funding is provided

If you are involved in a Civil case, interpreters will be provided based on service needs priority.

Requesting an Interpreter

If you are in need of interpreter services, speak with a court clerk, court official, or fill out the interpreter services request form provided below and bring it to the court office. For additional form languages, see the Forms section in the sidebar or follow the hyperlink to the California Courts Language Interpreter information site provided in the Quick Links section in the sidebar.

It is important that you request an interpreter as early as possible, at least a week before your court date. If an interpreter is not available by the time of your hearing, your case may be continued until one can be assigned.

If you feel that a court provided interpreter behaved unprofessionally, you have the right to register a complaint against that interpreter.

Examples of unprofessional behavior include:

  • The interpreter was late or absent from your hearing
  • The interpreter made serious errors when translating for you
  • The interpreter appeared biased for or against you

You can fill out the complaint form provided below and submit it to your local courthouse, or you can contact the Court Interpreter Program directly at For additional form languages, see the Forms section in the sidebar.
